Flu-like, inflamed all over

Many people said doctor-prescribed prednisone eased their POIS symptoms dramatically, with one saying they felt like a normal person. Some added that symptoms came back instantly and stronger after stopping, calling it a bandaid rather than a cure, and not wanting to stay on it long term. Reports were mixed. Six people said CBD oil or 30 mg softgels took away some of their symptoms, with a few feeling it calmed an immune or inflammatory reaction and one even saying they felt cured. Several people said taking high-dose vitamin D daily helped them — commonly 10,000 IU a day, sometimes 10,000–20,000 IU, and one person added 5,000 IU before sex; one felt it matters most in winter. Several vitamin reports are mixed here. One person took vitamin K2 daily plus moringa leaf powder for vitamin K1 and said they no longer seemed to have POIS symptoms; a few others said vitamins D, C and E helped them. A few people said zinc helped: one way was a single zinc supplement about 30 minutes before ejaculation, often alongside antihistamines and CBD; another was 50 mg zinc plus 2000 mg vitamin C daily. Three people said medicines used for mast cell activation (MCAS) — Claritin, Zantac and cromolyn sodium — helped: one said the mast cell stabilizers really calmed body-wide inflammation, another said cromolyn reduced symptoms, and some also used quercetin, vitamin D and a low-histamine diet. Three people said cleavers, an herb, in extract form helped them: one said it cut symptoms a lot at the start, another agreed, and one counted it among their main treatments and felt almost symptom-free. Three people said cold exposure eased the inflamed feeling in their body: some took ice baths or swam in very cold water daily, one walked around all day in a shirt and shorts in freezing weather, and one said daily cold plunges helped most. One said it only worked with 0°C water for at least 5 minutes, three times a week or more, and it was tiring. Extreme cold carries risks; these are personal reports only.

Three people mentioned ginger capsules as helpful: one said two pills just before or right after orgasm seemed to drive all or most symptoms away; another listed ginger among things that lately worked a bit, along with vitamin D, zinc, selenium, an antihistamine and CBD softgels; a third called ginger capsules before orgasm a good first thing to try.

Three people said ginger tea after orgasm worked: one drank their first cup two days after and was surprised by the effect; one used very strong Korean ginger and said it worked well; another makes tea from 500 grams of ginger and saw benefits, but said it raises their libido too much. The amounts people described differ widely, so treat them with caution.

Three people said aspirin or ibuprofen (such as Advil), taken after ejaculation or when symptoms began, helped, though one stressed it eased only some of the symptoms and not all. No doses were given. Personal reports — talk to a doctor before using medication.

Three people said taking niacin (vitamin B3) after ejaculation, enough to cause a warm, red flush, eased their symptoms. Two people mentioned black cumin seeds: one took high amounts daily for a week along with abstinence and sunlight and said it worked; the other cooked with them and said it greatly helped, but later developed food intolerances.

Two people said Nigella sativa seeds helped: one chewed two spoons twice a day for a month and saw a difference in the first week, and the other felt their symptoms were improving.

Two people said CBD gave them a lot of relief. One said using it after orgasm works about 80% as well as before, with symptoms lingering until it kicks in and some leftover inflammation and soreness; the other said it made them feel almost normal.

Two people were counted for this approach. One said alternating Celebrex (celecoxib) with diclofenac sodium, plus plenty of CBD oil, worked about 80%. The post gave no dose, frequency or duration.

Two people said cold showers helped. One took them after an episode and felt the inflammatory response ease and themselves more alert; the other noticed symptoms were milder in colder seasons, takes cold showers off and on, and said it is no cure but lowers severity.

Two comments said they felt great after eating cranberries; one person ate a bunch the day before and then ejaculated, and felt fine. Neither said which symptoms improved or how long they kept it up.

Of two people, one said what helped most was high-quality curcumin and olive leaf extract taken 20–30 minutes before orgasm. Another line instead credited curcumin with rosemary extract for a 40–50% drop in symptoms, so the exact combination is a little unclear.

Two people mentioned anti-inflammatory herbs such as ginger and turmeric. One uses them regularly; the other said anti-inflammatory drugs or herbs seem to help most people when taken before orgasm. Nobody gave doses.

Two people said changing what they ate helped. One went gluten-free a few months earlier and now believes gluten makes their inflammation worse; the other kept to a strict whole-foods diet with no sugar, gluten or dairy and said it reduced their inflammation.
